North Dakota primary prevention gathering

Yesterday I had the opportunity to speak at the 3rd North Dakota Injury Control and Prevention conference in Bismarck. Hundreds of people interested in injury and violence prevention gathered.  Since it was during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I highlighted many of the domestic violence prevention efforts taking place in North Dakota.

For a plenary session I presented on “Building Comprehensive Primary Prevention” where I highlighted the importance of including prevention activities across the social ecological model, especially community focused efforts.  In a breakout session I gave a workshop on “Emerging Trends in Sexual & Domestic Violence Primary Prevention” where I highlighted engaging men (such as the Healthy Masculinity Action Summit later this month), empowering young women and girls (such as Powered By Girl), and the value of a bystander framework for prevention.

It was great to meet North Dakota prevention practitioners in person.
