Building Healthy Relationships and Promoting Protective Factors in Alaska

On this podcast, PreventConnect chatted with Natalie Watson, Britta Tonessen, Kirk Burke, and Hannah Harvey of AWARE and Girls of the Run of Greater Alaska to discuss how they are implementing the Girls on the Run program to advance sexual and intimate partner violence prevention by empowering girls.

Girls on the Run uses both positive youth development and social emotional learning frameworks to create “a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.”

AWARE has taken the momentum and success of Girls on the Run and is using similar concepts in their Boys Run – I toowú klatseen program, and continues to grow their program and their connection with the local community through family nights. Listen to the podcast to learn more, and check out part 2 of this podcast to learn how AWARE is creating equity both in communities and in their own organizational culture.
