Ignite Talk: Texas Coming Together to Make Change

Prior to the 2016 National Sexual Assault Conference in Washington, D.C., the National Sexual Violence Resource Center hosted the 2016 RPE Leadership Training. Ignite Talks sparked important conversations about advancing our prevention work.

In this Ignite Talk, Peggy Helton of the Texas Primary Prevention Planning Committee (Texas PPPC) provides an overview of how the Texas PPPC designed a clear, simple and realistic funding plan amendment for their RPE-funded organizations during the severe funding crisis that accompanied the VAWA reauthorization. She also highlights the process through which the Texas PPPC implemented this amended funding plan using the insights, expertise and support of key stakeholders. Their revised realistic funding plan included:

  • Reducing funding from 49 sexual assault programs to  25
  • Implementing competitive funding
  • Decreasing 11 goals to just 1 goal prioritizing risk and protective factors
Using the quotes from their RPE-partners, the presenter shares insights, hurdles and milestones to create further funding opportunities to end sexual violence in Texas.
