PreventConnect Reading Club: Changing Perceptions in Sexual Violence

Join other PreventConnect prevention practitioners throughout the country in the August PreventConnect Reading Club to examine "Changing Perceptions of Sexual Violence Over Time" by Sarah McMahon in consultation with Karen Baker (October 2011), published by VAWnet, a project of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence. This article reviews available research on perceptions held by the general public about sexual violence and how they have changed over time. The article provides recommendations for future practice, which include discussing the root causes of sexual violence and addressing subtle victim blaming.

Registration is limited to 50 people per session. The article is available to download by clicking on this link.

Wed., Nov. 09, 2011

This sixty-minute (60 min) session will start at
11 AM Pacific Standard
(2 PM Eastern, 1 PM Central, Noon Mountain, 10 AM Alaska, 8 AM Hawai'i).

What is a Reading Club?
People involved in prevention rarely have an opportunity to discuss the impact of emerging research about this work. PreventConnect Reading Clubs meetings provide a way for people to meet online and have such discussions. These small, one-hour meetings occur on an open phone line, with the web conference used as a common way to view the reading and other materials. NOTE: This is not a web conference nor a training. Your active participation is essential to the Reading Club.

Compatibility:
The iLinc web conference software used by Prevent Connect is compatible with both Microsoft® Windows® and Apple® Macintosh® computers. Click here for detailed system requirements.

PreventConnect is a national project of the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) and is sponsored by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
