The National Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence 2010 Summary Report: Understanding the Utility and Limitations of the State-Level Prevalence Estimates

This presentation will briefly reintroduce the methods of the NISVS survey before describing the range of state-level prevalence estimates presented in the 2010 Summary Report. The presenters will explain how the state-level estimates can be best interpreted as well as describe a number of the limitations associated with these estimates. In particular, the presenters will caution against making comparisons between states, and between men's and women's numbers, and will describe why these types of comparisons are not recommended. Finally, the presenters will describe how data collection in future years will help to improve the scope and precision of these prevalence estimates. The presenters will answer questions following the presentation.
